Stephanie, Donna suggested I get in touch with you re: thrush. As I was visiting your blog, though, I saw these darling shoes and went and ordered some for the 4 boys who have been born into our extended families this year. Thanks! You saved me time and money this Christmas!
As to thrush, any suggestions you have would be absolutely appreciated!

Hi Sarah! I am glad you were able to get a good deal on some shoes. :)

As for the thrush. Yuck...I am sorry you have to deal with this. I have it right now. It is NO fun! The thing that I used that made it go away pretty quick was grapefruit seed extract. Here is the basic run down of what I did:

1. Cut as much sugar out of my diet as possible (I am not sure about you, but I have quite the sweet tooth...this has been hard). This includes things made with honey, agave nectar, etc.

2. Take probiotics (I used the Jar-o-dophopholis in the yellow or green jar). I can not remember how much I took, but I think the recommendations on the bottle are fine.

3. Swabbed my nipples every hour and before nursing the baby with a mixture of 1 oz distilled water and 10-20 drops of grapefruit seed extract (you can get this at the health food store). I swabbed the inside of the baby's mouth after every nursing session as well. You can use a q-tip to do the swabbing...just don't double dip. I made a new batch of the solution every day. Also, start off with 10 drops and increase to 15 the second day.

I hope that you are able to get rid of the thrush. Check out the KellyMom website with LOTS of good info on thrush. The routine above helped me kick it pretty quick. I was pain-free within days. Best of luck! :)

Thanks so much! I did ck out kellymom when I saw your suggestions on Donna's blog and got some good info from it.
I'm like you--I have a CRAZY sweet tooth (when I first read the "no sugar"--even artificial? What's that about?--rule on the numerous lists I found, I almost cried.)
I have been doing some of the things you mentioned, but haven't tried g.s.e. yet.
You say you have it now. . . does that mean AGAIN? Is a pattern of thrush what I have to look forward to? Yikes!
I'm having such a hard time, and the physical discomfort is only a small portion. Did you feel like a crazy lady at all, or do I have to find something else on which to blame such things?

Unfortunately, I do think it can be a pattern. I have read a few threads on MDC about thrush that really freaked me out. Thankfully, mine isn't that bad, but still...

I do have thrush right now, but I have been lazy and have treated it much or cut out a lot of the sugars. I know I should, but it isn't affecting Lucy or Ben, and I can deal until I need to treat it again. I hate treating is such a pain!
